Question #5593   Submitted by Answiki on 12/23/2021 at 10:16:55 AM UTC

In French, should we write "dis-moi" or "dit-moi" ?

Answer   Submitted by Answiki on 12/23/2021 at 10:20:23 AM UTC

The imperative French verb dire (to tell) is written: dis, so the correct spelling is: dis-moi, dis-le-moi, dis-le-nous ...

Note that in the locutions dis-moi, dis-le-moi ... each word is connected by a hyphen.

For example:

Dis-moi si tu viens demain. <=> Tell me if you are coming tomorrow.

Dis-moi des mots d'amour. <=> Tell me words of love.

Dis-le-moi si tu a cassé la vitre ! <=> Tell me if you broke the window!

Dès que tu as la réponse, dis-le-nous. <=> As soon as you have the answer, tell us.
