In LaTeX, the fractions are written with \frac, \tfrac or \dfrac. For example:
fraction = \frac {numerator} {denominator}
displays:

\dfracis for display mode (applies the style used for equations outside the text) -
\tfracis for text mode (applies the style used for the equations in the text) -
\fracautomatically selects the applied style from the two above.
