Question #6620   Submitted by Answiki on 09/12/2022 at 05:57:11 PM UTC

In French, should we write tiquet or ticket?

Answer   Submitted by Answiki on 09/12/2022 at 05:58:26 PM UTC

In French, there is only one correct spelling of the word ticket: un ticket.

For example :

Peux-tu m'avancer un ticket de métro ?

Il a égaré son ticket gagnant à la loterie.

Les tickets de caisse tendent à disparaître au profit de tickets numériques.

Note that the noun ticket should not be confused with the verb tiquer (which means to show astonishment or disapproval by an involuntary movement).

For example :

J'ai tiqué quand il a insisté pour être payé en liquide.
