In french, the spelling of the word pari/e/s depends on the meaning and context in which it is used:
- We write pari when we talk about the action of betting money (singular): e.g. Ce pari était complètement stupide (This bet was completely stupid).
- We write paris when referring to the action of betting money (plural): e.g. Les paris sont ouverts (Bets are open).
- We write Paris (with a capital letter) when we talk about the city: e.g. La Tour Eiffel est située à Paris (The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris).
- We write parie or paries when it is the conjugation of the verb parier: e.g. Je parie sur ce cheval, et toi, tu paries sur celui-là (I bet on this horse, and you bet on that one).
The spelling parit does not exist in French.
For example:
Paris est la ville de l'amour.
Il a gagné son pari.
Je te paris cent euros que j'ai raison.
