On a keyboard, the little wave ( ~ ) is called tilde. This symbol comes from the Latin « titulus » (title).
This symbol is nowadays used in computers, it is originally a diacritical sign of the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets. It is found for example above the "n" in some Spanish words: señor.
