In French, should we write cor, corp or corps?
The French word corps (body) accepts several homonyms that are spelled differently:
- The main part of a being, object or work is always spelled with a final s: un corps, des corps.
- The musical instrument (the horn) is spelled: un cor, des cors.
- The Anglo-Saxon abbreviation for corporation (corp.) is written without an s, but ends with a period: corp.
Some examples:
Les tatouages mettent son corps en valeur.
Ils ont retrouvé les corps des victimes.
Le corps médical s'insurge.
Le corps de la page s'affiche correctement.
À corps perdu, il a nagé jusqu'à la berge.
Le cor d'harmonie est un instrument à vent de la famille des cuivres.
